Case Assignment

Supervision and evaluation of teaching is a complex task for educational leaders. Use the readings in Module 3 and any other relevant sources to write a 3- to 5-page paper that responds to the following questions:

· What factors should be used to evaluate teaching?

· How and when should feedback be given to teachers?

· What is the principal’s role in this process?

Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner.

Evaluation of Teaching

The readings emphasize that supervision of instruction and development of teachers are critical roles of educational leaders/principals. Even when leaders/principals can find time to visit teachers in their classrooms, the time is not always focused. Create a 3- to 5-page resource for instructional leaders/principals to use when they visit classrooms that would be appropriate for someone in your current role to use. The resource should include:

· Instructions/considerations for before, during, and after a classroom visit (e.g., checklists, discussion guides, etc.).

· Please note that this resource would be informal and used in addition to whatever formal teacher evaluation processes exist within a district/school.
